Growing microgreens tips.

1. Find a good location to grow your microgreens.

Growing microgreens at home can be a delightful and rewarding experience! Here are some tips on finding the perfect spot for your green oasis:

Sunlight: Microgreens love natural light, so a sunny windowsill that receives at least 4-6 hours of direct sunlight per day is ideal. North-facing windows tend to get the most sunlight. If natural light is limited, you can use grow lights to supplement.

Space: Ensure you have enough space to accommodate your growing trays or containers. A small table or shelf near a window works great. Just make sure it's a stable surface.

Temperature: Microgreens thrive in a stable, warm environment. Aim for a temperature range between 18°C to 30°C. Avoid placing them near drafts or extreme temperature fluctuations.

Humidity: While microgreens prefer moderate humidity levels, make sure the location is well-ventilated to prevent mold growth. A small fan can help improve air circulation.

Convenience: Choose a location that's easy to access for watering and maintenance. You'll want to keep an eye on your greens and ensure they're getting the care they need.

2. Watering tips

Check Frequently: Regularly check the moisture level of the soil. Stick your finger into the soil; if it feels dry below the surface, it's time to water.

Avoid Overwatering: Be mindful not to overwater, as this can lead to mold and fungal issues. Less is more when it comes to watering microgreens.

3. Harvesting Tips:

Timing: Most microgreens are ready to harvest in about 7-14 days, once they have developed their first set of true leaves. The timing may vary slightly depending on the type of microgreens you're growing, so be sure to check the specific growth period for your seeds.

Tools: Use a clean, sharp pair of scissors or a knife to harvest your microgreens. This will ensure a clean cut and reduce the risk of damaging the delicate plants.

Harvesting Technique: Hold the microgreens by the stem and cut just above the soil line. This helps prevent soil from sticking to the leaves and keeps your greens clean.

Harvest in Batches: If you don't need all your microgreens at once, harvest them in batches. This way, you can enjoy fresh microgreens over a longer period.

Storing: If you're not using them immediately, store your harvested microgreens in an airtight container or a plastic bag with a damp paper towel. Keep them in the refrigerator to maintain freshness.

Additional Tips:

Gentle Handling: Handle the microgreens gently to avoid bruising or crushing them.

Cleanliness: Make sure your hands, tools, and work area are clean to prevent contamination.

Harvest Early: For the best flavour and nutrition, harvest microgreens in the morning when they're at their freshest.
